CRA Super Series Late Models To Headline Gresham Motorsports Park Season Opener

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

JEFFERSON, GA (January 9, 2010) – One of the most popular divisions in the history of Gresham Motorsports Park – Super Late Model Stock Cars – will return as the featured attraction at the track’s 2010 season opening event on Saturday, March 13.

The Champion Racing Association (CRA) Super Series Late Models will headline the 2010 GMP season opener with a 125-lap main event. A longtime staple of the Gresham facility when it was known as Jefco, Georgia International and Peach State Speedways, the Super Late Model division has not competed at GMP since the 2008 World Crown 300.

According to GMP General Manager Dan Elliott, the CRA ‘Supers’ will be some of the fastest cars to ever compete on the Jefferson, GA half-mile oval.

“I do believe these will be the fastest cars and some of the most talented drivers to ever compete at this track,” said Elliott. “GMP has quickly earned the reputation as one of the fastest short tracks in the country, one that really separates the men from the boys. The track has so much grip and corner speeds are really fast. That also leads to even faster speeds on the straights too. It’s like this track is on steroids. Any driver that comes to GMP and thinks that it is going to be easy is going to be surprised how fast this place is.”

The March 13 season-opening event will be one of five times that the Super Late Models will compete at GMP in 2010. Dubbed the ‘GMP Super Series,’ additional Super Late Model events are scheduled for June 19, July 17 and September 18. The CRA Super Series will also sanction the July 17th event. The winners of each of those events will earn an automatic starting spot in the 2010 World Crown 300 –which this year returns the Super Late Model division to headline event status the weekend of November 11-14.

“We feel like the format change to the Super Late Model division for the World Crown 300 is not only going to make that great event even better, but it’s also going to make our regular season events more exciting and competitive as well,” said Elliott, noting the importance of earning a guaranteed starting spot for the World Crown 300. “This track was built for speed and the Super Late Models are going to provide that for our racers and fans alike.”

CRA Super Series is considered to be one of the top Super Late Model touring series in the country. In addition to the GMP event, the CRA Super Series will sanction up to 20 events at 15 different speedways in 2010. In 2009, 126 different drivers competed in CRA Super Series events with Johnny Van Doorn winning the overall championship.

Elliott also indicated the March 13 GMP season-opening program will also feature Outlaw Late Models, Trucks and Renegade Street Stock action in addition to the CRA Super Series main event.

“We’re really excited to be able to showcase the talent in our local divisions,” said Elliott. “Racing at GMP is a great way for them to improve their skills and move up to other divisions. It’s also solid way for us to add to our racing program and make this an even better entertainment value for our fans.”
